BRITE Box comes to Lambeth
Ingredients for a Brite Box meal
Healthy recipe kits help families cook, eat and learn together
Healthy Living Platform is excited to be bringing BRITE Box to Lambeth this summer as part of a pilot project with Macaulay Church of England Primary School.
BRITE Box is an award-winning family recipe kit programme that provides children with everything they need to take home and cook a healthy meal with their families, including fresh ingredients, simple illustrated recipe cards and a Chef Award booklet that helps children build confidence and skills in the kitchen.
Over the Summer Term, the Year 5 class at Macaulay School will receive weekly BRITE Boxes to take home, giving children and families the chance to cook together, try new foods and build confidence around healthy eating. The pilot will also help us test how this model could work in Lambeth, with a view to growing the programme in more schools in future.
Why BRITE Box?
At Healthy Living Platform, we know that access to healthy food is only part of the picture. Families also need the confidence, skills and practical support to cook healthy meals at home in ways that feel achievable, affordable and enjoyable.
That is what makes BRITE Box so powerful. It combines food access, food education and family cooking in one simple weekly box, helping children learn through doing and making healthy food a fun part of family life.
The programme has already been delivered across London and beyond, with more than 36,000 BRITE Boxes delivered to families through the wider initiative. Independent evaluation has shown strong results, with:
80% of parents/carers saying they had a positive BRITE Box experience
80% saying they would use the recipes again
75% saying BRITE Box introduced their children to new foods
70% saying their children were excited to receive their box
70% saying they cooked more as a family because of the programme (Voices of Hope)
A Lambeth pilot with potential to grow
This pilot is being delivered by Healthy Living Platform as a local social franchise partner, adapting the BRITE Box model for Lambeth and exploring how it could become part of our wider work with schools and families.
Alongside weekly recipe kits, the project will draw on our existing food hub, community food infrastructure and volunteer network, helping us test a community-led model that combines healthy food access, practical food education, surplus food redistribution and local volunteering.
We hope this is just the start.
Healthy Living Platform is currently applying for funding to grow the programme beyond this pilot and bring BRITE Box to more Lambeth schools in future, building on what we learn during this first phase.
